After our visit to the building site it was great to see how this experience enhanced the play in Class 1.
When playing in the provision the children remembered their hi vis jackets.
They were observed imitating the brick laying process.
They worked together to create houses using books for inspiration.

Football fever has taken over Class 1 these past few weeks. The children have shown interest in the Premier League, Sunderland and their trip to Wembley and playing football themselves.
As a result of this we enhanced our provision:

As our ducklings grow we can introduce them to water. We filled our water tray and made an island so that there was a space for them to take a break from the water if they wanted to.
We watched with excitement as the ducklings darted around the water tray.
As our tray is clear we were able to watch what was happening underneath the water as well as on top.
“Look at his feet.”

This morning we got a lovely surprise as there were 2 ducklings and they were in the cage.
We watched with interest as the ducklings got used to their new environment. After dinner we got to have a hold or a stroke.
We were very lucky this afternoon to see a duckling hatch from an egg.
The children waited patiently and watched carefully for the duckling to make it’s way out of the egg.

The children had a busy morning visiting the Gleeson Homes site in Blackhall.
Dressed in their hi vis jackets and hard hats off they went into the site.
We were extremely sensible as we walked through the building site to Plot 102.
Paula chatted to us about being safe on the site. We discussed why we were wearing the hi vis jackets and hats.
“We put our hard hats on to keep safe.” Joseph
We got to see some of the machinery that is used on the site.
Our next job was to have a go at bricklaying.
“I like holding the bricks.” Zara
“We stacked the bricks up.” Dollie
The staff and children from Class 1 would like to thank everyone at Gleeson Homes and our volunteers for a fantastic morning.

We got a surprise this morning when one of our ducklings had hatched.
Meet Donald
The children have watched with interest, what Donald was up to and looking for clues to see if any other ducklings were ready to hatch.

There was a buzz of excitement around school today as we received our eggs.
There was lots of discussion about what the eggs looked like and why they were in the incubator. The children used the information from Incredible Eggs to identify the type of ducks that would be hatching. We came to the conclusion that they were Pekin ducks, “The eggs are white like them,” said Phoebe.
