The theme of ‘Growth’ inspired us to think about things that grow. After lots of discussion we planted our own sunflower seed. We are excited to watch them grow.
St. Joseph’s Day
The 19th March is St. Joseph’s Day.
St Joseph is the patron saint of families, in class we talked about the people in our families and why they are special. The children drew a picture and some wrote a prayer asking St. Joseph to take care of our families.
Police Visit
PCSO Ian Goodwin visited school to talk to Class 1 and 2 about how the police can help us, stranger danger and water safety. The children listened carefully and had the opportunity to ask questions. They finished off by trying on some of the uniform.
Visit to St Joseph’s Church
As we prepare to start attending mass again Father Ian very kindly invited us to spend some time in church. Father Ian showed us around and we had the chance to ask questions. The children showed respect, friendship, excellence and care throughout their visit and all the adults were very proud.
Whatever Next!
We have been reading the story Whatever Next! by Jill Murphy. In the story Baby Bear makes his own rocket and goes to the moon. We gathered the same resources and recreated the journey to the moon.
The children took on different roles within the scenario and were able to switch roles. They were excited to be Baby Bear and be caught in the rain.
There was even some problem solving going on with some children finding a better hat because it didn’t have holes in.
World Book Day 2022
Books are huge part of daily life in Class 1. To celebrate World Book Day we chose one of our favourites ‘The Day the Crayons quit’ and then used this for inspiration to create our own t-shirts.
Shrove Tuesday 2022
Inspired by the book ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’ Little J’s made a shopping list of the ingredients we needed to make pancakes.
This afternoon we then made and tasted our wonderful pancakes, mmm!
Kitchen Makeover
We have been very lucky to have a new role play kitchen in Class 1. It has been very popular with all of the children and we look forward to see how our play develops after half term.
Role Play
Some of the children worked with others, to collect resources and develop their own role play story line.
On this occasion they were playing ‘teachers’
They each took on a role one as the teacher and the rest as students. They collected the appropriate resources and then started their play. During the play the children were observed reenacting lessons that they had been apart of across that week.
“Let’s pass this round and have a look.”
“What do you think this is?”
“Is it you?”
“Yes, well done here’s a sticker.”
To link in with the theme ‘Growing Together’ we talked about how we have changed since we were born.
“The baby doesn’t have teeth I have.”
“He can’t walk we need to hold him.”
“I can put my socks on by myself now.”
We finished the day with a lovely treat of juice and a biscuit.
